MY SUMMER WILL COME

Image
It’s been a while  Since I smiled On this windy road Endless winter, harsh snow Braving the storms Tired and alone. Hello, a stranger with a warm bowl On this endless, windy road. Your heart as cold As the ice on road. Shivering, trenches deep in snow I make, Nay a friend, nary a home in sight, To rest my eyes awhile. O how long has it been Since I have been home, Mother’s food, father’s hug Or shared in my kin’s joke. I walk the roads alone, For burdens are heavy, I climb the mountains big, So the path behind is easy. It’s dark and cold here, promise me but the sun, Not far, my summer will come.

When do you ask for consent

I was standing at a stop Waiting for my bus to arrive A fine young gentleman approached and asked for my number  I hesitate before I decline He says, '”but, I am a nice guy” As he takes a step closer towering over my frame with all his height. I flinch, afraid, I peer around for help. None are at this stop ‘Cept the bus that comes on. I hold my bag close and run away. It has been a hectic week  I meet up with a friend to catch up We have a drink or two in us As we move to cook a joined meal His hands move to the rhythm of beats Onto the low of my back He pulls me closer  I brake with both my palms “ But I am a nice guy, you should give me a chance” He says, as he continues to pull me in closer  I push hard and lock myself in the room. Was coming back from a celebration the other night with a friend We must have had some drinks As one hand on wheel, his other found mine I push away, I flinch  “But I am a nice guy”  He says, as his hand continues to gra...

Safe

The world is a cruel dark place People are selfish and unbothered Lines of right and wrong are blotched into a large space of grey I cling on to my humanity with all my claws in. It scares me, the white lies You can trust or you can watch them, Yet person next to you hides beneath their promises, a skeleton of deceits Unkind, ruthless and self centered But I am here,  I am still here Putting together, kindness block by block building a home that is safe You can come here and rest, lean against the cool and the warmth You are safe here.

Loved

I met you in the garden of Eden You told me I am someone you've been looking for The fleck in my eyes mesmerizes you And my persona has caught your heart. I never knew expression of affection How beautiful it could be  Words choke in my throat As much as I want to tell thee. About the warmth of your presence And healing your words have Brought into my life. I have never known the ease of telling someone The love I hold in my heart. So I take it to this pen and paper Pour it out in the ink. Let my words immortalize That I met a man Who showed me how easy it is to love. And being loved is not hard I just have to open my heart.

Anyone

To the guy who said he would be with anyone but with me, I have carried the weight of those words in my heart, The pain of my spirit crushed, for very long, I trusted the whimsy parts of my being in your hands, And then got pushed into the depths of Tartarus. My soul was broken and my heart was crushed. I thank you today, For without you, I wouldn't have broken apart into the smallest of bits. For without it, atoms of my soul wouldn't have come together, This time, to create a perfect being of myself. This time, I put myself together the right way. I thank you today for the love you showered when we were together, And for the hell my soul has endured, Because today, I am stronger than ever I have been.  I release you from my energy today. It's been a long time coming, I put you to rest.

Paradise

**All the characters and events in this story are completely fictional** The bizarre set of events that started happening as soon as I landed in the magic island of Hawaii still sends my brain reeling into a perplexed contusion. I planned a trip to surf the beaches of Hawaii, on island of Oahu, for my birthday. The trip started with my friends riling me up to fetch that fairy tale romance I dream of. Don't tell them that I stuffed my luggage with 3 books, and I plan to do some intense reading.   I was waiting by baggage carousel after my flight landed to collect my suitcase. I see this tall gentleman (or should I call him an adult boy since he is wearing a gray sweatshirt, blue jeans, and white sneakers), picking up a red 24" suitcase that weirdly resembled mine. His suitcase had a captain marvel sticker on it just like my suitcase. IT WAS MY SUITCASE! I ran around the perimeter of carousel as this gentleman tries to casually walk away with m...

Her

She is beautiful But not in your conventional ways. She doesn't need layers of foundation to brighten her face, Although she does. The sparkle in her eyes, Lights up even the gloomiest of days with sliver of hope. She doesn't need manicured painted nails to be elegant, Although she does. Grace and kindness she extends to even the strangest of people,  Reminds them of goodness of hearts. She doesn't need to put bright red lipstick to be fierce, Although she does. Her courage and integrity inspires the kind of bravery you only read in legends. She doesn't need to strap on a pair of high heels to look tall, Although she does. The place she holds in the people's heart is mighty lofty.  She doesn't need to adorn that sparkly dress, Although she does. The cackle of her laughter booms in every corner of the coldest of hearts, And fills it with love and joy.
